I think it made the papers but possibly not the TV. Regrettably when the main motor failed there was no interest in replacing it. Later the block was sold and a new clubrooms constructed on a new site.
Interestingly even in the late 1970's when the project was started a Specified Departure from the local Council and a backstop around 4.5 metres high was required for a no danger area range. Pretty much what is needed now.

Back in 1974 a new Running Boar range was opened in Cheviot and I was one of the shooters in the opening. The guest of honour was Charlie Upham and he fired the first shots (5 in each direction) with his old single shot Springfield .22 without scoring a single hit. He looked at me and smiled, saying "The bloody Germans couldn't run that fast!"
