Back in 1974 a new Running Boar range was opened in Cheviot and I was one of the shooters in the opening. The guest of honour was Charlie Upham and he fired the first shots (5 in each direction) with his old single shot Springfield .22 without scoring a single hit. There must have been a spike of interest in Running Boar Ranges in the early 1970's. Taupo NZDA brought their portable range down to Hastings in 1972 for the Hawkes Bay NZDA Clubs to try out. This sparked the interest and the Hastings Club started planning soon after. The shooting hut had a covered mound next to it so we could shoot 50 metre 4P as well. This was on our own land next to the Roy's Hill Range so we were well blessed. All gone now.
