Kiwiman....The following article should explain a little about 'Point Blank Range' and give you some idea why you will get different suggestions, as people's ideas here will be based on shooting different calibers, animals, muzzle velocities and weights of bullets with different B.C's

From the table in the link, if you zero your rifle with a 140 grain bullet, traveling at a muzzle velocity of 2860fps at 2.6" high at 100yds, you will still be 1.9" high at 200yds with the bullet hitting its maximum rise of 3" at 140yds and dropping to 3" below line of sight (centre of the cross hair) at 285 yards.
Your individual loading will probably vary slightly from the one in the table, but should be close enough as to make virtually no noticeable difference in the field.
If you play about with a ballistics calculator and input different variables, such as the range you zero at, you will see how it effects things and this may help you to settle on a final decision.
The most difficult thing is going to be accurate range estimation, and that is only going to come from a lazer or lots of time, practice and experience in the field.
