I wouldn’t have even mentioned the “ Velvet “ thing .
Jeez , I wish my first Deer was as nice as that .
Mine was a Doughy / Stupid Spiker that stood in front of me in the last 2 minutes of light...
The amount of Deer on the hook in this thread just speaks volumes.
To change subjects slightly.
Who has had accuracy success with the 80 gn eldm’s ?
My Tikka will shoot them OK , but the 77...
Personally I think you need to ring every ounce of speed out of the .223 that you can , especially when you start to use heavier projectiles.
In my uneducated view longer the better within reason ....
Initial trials with the 80 eldm in my Tikka with a Waters mag to allow long oal are showing good accuracy . Now that I know my barrel will shoot them I'll narrow the loads down to find a winner ....
Great post
This thread continues to be my favourite .
Just had a talley up of my components and I’ve shot approximately 1200 rounds of 223 in the last 12 months.
Vast majority are just...
From memory you have a couple of different .223 Rifles.
Which is your favourite “ Go To “ or most often used one ?
That’s what I did , but only bought one mag .
That’s good information
Interesting that you couldn’t get the 80 eldm to work .
To be honest that is half of the reason why I’ve fronted up for the Waters mag , I want to give them a run...
I’ve just ordered a Waters 6 shot 66mm mag for my Tikka .
Im interested in hearing how you got on with yours , do they feed well and how did they go in combination with the 77gr TMK .
Did you use...
I only shot one small Pig with them , so that’s not exactly an in-depth trial of their performance.
It was quartering away at about 150 yrds and the Pig died instantly . I didn’t do an autopsy...
I’m chasing some loading advice in regards to the 77gr TMK projectiles.
Are they picky when it comes to how far they like to be jumped to the lands ?
My hope is to seat them out as far as the...
It seems there is no slowing down of .223 appreciation here , just spent quite a while catching up on posts since my last visit.
I finally found some Sierra 77gr TMK projectiles , can’t wait for...
Great to see a Mercator earning its keep
This thread is the main reason I check in here now .
Keep the posts coming, the .223 just works on so many levels
Just measured up some projectiles.
Outer Edge 57gn = 23.0mm
Hornady 60gn Vmax = 22.1mm
But a lot of the difference is in the Ogive , I don’t have a way of measuring the Ogive but for example....
Here is link to a podcast with the owner/ developer of Outer Edge projectiles .
Hope the link works for anyone that might be interested .

A Chronograph is on the wish list , maybe a self funded Christmas present
The issue with these projectiles is that they are really long ( copper monolithic) and at the recommended seating...
Shot some load development with the 57gn Outer edge copper Monolithic projectiles today .
I'm using 2206H powder and I just can't get enough in the case to get up to the next accuracy node , 25gn is...
It will be interesting to see how they fly .
The 57 gn ones are the business for bigger critters according to my advisors.
These projectiles do have a reputation for accuracy though and the company...
I just received some new projectiles to play with here in Australia .
They are Copper Monolithic bullets made by Outer Edge and they have been recommended to me by a couple of Blokes who shoot Big...
Finally got around to shooting some 73gn elm load tests today , it was a quick session at first light .
These were just shot over the bonnet of the Ute with a bipod and jacket rolled up under the...
2.32 in ( 58.92 mm )
That is the max length that feeds and functions reliability through my internal mag .
Just finished working on a load with Hornady 60gn V Max bullets / 2206H powder and now want to load some Hornady 73gn eldm .
The ADI website suggests for a 70 gn bullet starting at 23gn and a max...
Thanks for that .
At the moment I want to keep the internal magazine, but it’s good to know that there is that option available.
I just don’t like Magazines that protrude down out of the Stock ....
