Don't the trees get in the way?
Makes the 77gn TMKs look cheap:)
I'm using 24.8 2206H with the 73gn ELD-M. Not a hot load.
Nice shooting.
I am easily getting 2900 with the 73gn from a 22" bbl using 2206h.
I can't speak for Tahr, but I know I own a lot of things I probably don't "need", but it's fun.
That's impressive shooting:cool:
Nice shooting.
I have had them exit but not this time. This one went through the shoulder bone and ribs (the hole in the rib cage was about 50mm round) and there was some damage under the skin on the off side....
Went to the range yesterday to verify zero after making a new batch of ammo neck sizing only. No problems there.

Took the 223 out that evening for a proper field test. No problem there...
Welcome to the forum.
Yes. Lots of people over here using the 223rem on deer, ranging in size from fallow to red. The 70+ grain bullets seem to be the way to go and your rifle should shoot them...
Interesting. I have just done it the other way around. My number one load is the 73gn ELD-M with 2206H but I was given some 55gn Belmont Black to use this week (sorry Tahr, I thought they were 62gn)...
For sure. It seems to be pretty well proven by the experiences users on here that the heavier projectiles out of the 223 kill much better at all ranges but especially once it starts getting out there...
Do you know what velocity you are getting with the 77TMKs from the 15" barrel?
I have left my latest 223 at a standard 22" for that reason. I do run a can but for the kind of hunting I do with it I don't find it a hindrance.
I was getting compressed loads with the 73gn ELD-M with 2208 at an OAL of 2.325 (chamber limited). Changing to 2206H fixed the compression problem and I'm getting 2900fps from my Browning.
Murph?
Have you tried 2206H with the 75gns?
Who is doing the chamber?
Perhaps you should choose different people to hunt with.
Good stuff.
What does the illuminated reticule look like in the light? Can you still see the dot?
Not a deer but a young sow I shot yesterday at 100m with a 73gn ELD-M. Thought people may be interested in the autopsy photos.

Exit

Exit hole in skin....
I don't believe that.
Thought you had 600 rounds loaded:D

Ok. So is there any situation where you would consider a bigger, faster bullet appropriate (or more suitable) for hunting NZ big game?
Not sure I agree. I would be reluctant to shoot a big red stag or Bull Tahr (at say 200 yards) in the most solid part of it's shoulder with a 70-80gn 22cal bullet where as I would have no hesitation...
