The following is Hornady data. 5.56 nato which will all know runs higher pressure, but this is also for an AR15. A tikka with a long throat will run every bit as well with these loads. I run 24gr...
I got mine pushed forward 0.080” (2mm). Best thing I’ve done to it so far
Yeah that was the plan behind extending the throat on mine, being able to run 2208. Still got a 1/2kg of 2206h to burn through first!
24gr 2206h. Loaded 0.020” off at an overall length of 2.515”.
I had the throat on mine pushed forward by 0.080”
80gr ELD-M run great in my 1-8” Tikka. Nothing fancy, but still produces 1” ten shot groups at 100.
TMK all day!
Bit of a rubbish morning this morning…. I sent an 80gr ELD-M on its way to a stag, but failed to retrieve it. The stag that is. Shot setup was good, I saw the hit and found and followed a good blood...
It’s such a great cartridge, especially in the right delivery system. It’s my go to now, and it’s the only rifle that I’ll use this roar. Shot a hind on Wednesday night with it under the light...
From personal experience and that of others that have used both, the ELD-M is better than the TMK for close range hits- it’s slightly less ‘splashy’ . The TMK has a slightly thicker jacket, but a...
I thought about bringing some home with me from the US (currently over there) but it turns out I would need an export permit, and it got waaay too admin intensive for a few packets of projectiles.
...
I’m seating mine out to about 2.440” that has the shank/boattail junction just a little past the neck/shoulder on the case.
I’m headed to the states tomorrow for a month, so I’m going to look at bringing some home. Probably not for my use though, I’m pretty happy with ELD-Ms

Took this sika on the evening of New Year’s Day, high up in the southern Kawekas. 80gr ELD-M at 2750fps. Hit high so took out the spine and dropped it instantly. Due to the steep...
Surprisingly there wasn’t much of a blood trail from this one either. Not initially anyway, got heavier once it started coming out his mouth…
Thanks. It’s a very nice rifle, lovely to carry at...
So absolutely not shot with the .223- exact opposite. Took this spiker last night with my .358 Win at around 100yds. 200gr Hornady SP launched at 2600fps.
You’ll see the size of the hole on the...
There’s failures discussed in the thread if you look. The article that you linked to uses the age old ‘ftlbs of energy’ fable as the basis to prove his point. Energy doesn’t kill animals, tissue...
Definitely confidence inspiring. Here’s a challenge for you…. Do that exact drill 10 times over and see what you get. Doesn’t matter if it’s shot on one go, or 4 hours between shots. I’d be really...
So like a lot of others I find the 80 ELD-M shoot good enough in my Tikka, and the TMK shoot mint. 10 shots in MOA mint…
I’m keen to know if anyone has validated the BC of the 80gr out of a 1-8”...
Yeah there’s a video of it playing out on a billy goat. Thing to remember is the target was 250yds and beyond, so outside the best impact velocity for that projectile type- first hits at 2200fps and...
I personally believe you would see bugger all difference between the two. An unsuitable bullet in the 6.5 could even result in a longer trailing job than the .223 with the right bullet. This thread...
77gr TMK, 80gr ELD-M or even 88gr if you have a 1-7” twist, or 80gr Targex. Load one of those and don’t look back!
Another one for the 6mm 223. Mate got this Tahr with a 70gr Ballistic Tip Nosler at 216 yards. Put it in the shoulder and game over.

Time to get this back up to the top. Not mine, but a good mate smacked this tonight with a ‘lowly’ 6x45. 75gr V-Max through both shoulders.

Not solid copper ones…. Manufacturer states 1-7” required
Haven’t heard of anyone using them. The 78’s will need a 1-7” twist barrel and I don’t imagine they (.223s with 1-7” twist barrel) are very common.
