I figured out that pulling the stock firmly into the shoulder with the lower three fingers of the trigger hand a few years ago. I think that alone improved my shooting and recoil management in all positions and any rest type more than anything else. I was a reasonable shot in the feild for 20 yearsbefore that.
Anyone who lightly holds the rifle into their shoulder (target shooters) doesn't shoot lightweight rifles in any sort of positional shooting.
Same as you, I have found that I don't need to load the bipod anymore either because of the firm to shoulder stock position.
