    Shooting distance without parralax adjustment

Hi guys...contemplating a scope for shooting out to 600 yards.
In terms of weight and optical quality something like a 3-10 power seems to make a lot of sense.
But how would a scope like that work with its focus fixed at 100m?
(I don't have a scope without AO or side focus to play with)
    Cheers...Chris

600 will be pushing it. I'm happy to not worry with my 3x9 out to 400. The key is actually shooting it out to where you want and seeing if you still hit shit.
Not much help if you are asking what to get before actually shooting that far. Whats your budget? a VX6 2-12 with side parallax is light and does what it needs to out wide

Couple of older threads cover this quite well cant remember but a search would find them. The message i took away was 3x mag range scopes eg 3-9 no need for it,4x its benefical at closer ranges. Set your parallax wrong and its worse than not having it at all.

I can hit my targets at 600 yards with 10 power fine...I practice at 10x because if I'm hunting alone I want to drop my magnification to have a better crack at spotting my own shots...its the parallax thing that bothers me.
VX6 would result in a sound thrashing from the missus...was actually thinking a sightron big sky 4-16 with AO then picked up a Vortex razor 3-10 at the sika show...got me thinking.

Cheers Martin Henry...I will have a search

If you've already got a scope you want to check out then you can do it yourself.
Set your rifle firmly in sandbags or bipod and lined up on a target.
Without touching the rifle or scope or stock anywhere, look at the target then move your eye around till you can only just see through the edge of the lens. How much does the crosshair move on the target ? You can't do this from your shooting position welding cheek on stock because any small head movement will push the rifle a little.

If you're already using the scope and can hit targets at 600m then there might not be much problem. Try firing a few shots say at 100, 300 and 600m with eye a moderate distance off center, perhaps a bit more error than you might expect under pressure in a awkward position. Please report back !

Most longer range fixed parallax scopes are actually set to 300m, which I guess isn't that far from practical infinity. My VX1 is only 70m, which is actually a good distance for a lot of shooting.

I've got this idea that a bigger objective gives more parallax error - does anyone else agree ? So with a 2-7x32 it's negligible. At 3-9x40 it's also pretty manageable but at x50mm or x56 it starts to be a problem. Another indication is that virtually no scopes under 12x have parallax adjustments. I guess you might want more than 10x for 600m unless you're just shooting gongs.

As long as you have a consistent cheek weld you won't have a problem, I have a 10x42 Schmidt Bender sniper scope ex NZ police issue with no parallax adjust no trouble shooting to 600 yards used it a lot at Clevedon rifle range shooting F class, one trick to try is pull your head back so you have a black ring in the scope and centre the crosshair in the clear centre helps minimise any parallax.

I am not sure about objective sizes but I do know that the higher the magnification, the more parallax comes into play. I have noticed that most larger objective scopes such as the 50 and 56mm tend to be higher magnification as well.

    Vx6 2-12 don't have side parallax adjustment

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts
