For the DOC Teetotal Range at St Arnaud you are required to read range standing orders before they issue a permit to use. It’s a step in the right direction so users know their obligations without being too onerous. Pretty similar to how local Clay Target Club,Pistol club,NZDA and NZNRA ranges work. All participants required to read RSO and sign entry form or range record book. I’m a RO for both local Deerstalkers and NRANZ range. Don’t ask for tighter regulations or they will happen. A very pragmatic approach has been taken by DOC and Police over how the Teetotal range operates and it’s working so far, users have been respectful of the rules, policing themselves and each other. There will be some dickhead road sign shooter type turn up sometime but can’t do much about that.
