Just wondering if anyone knows of any good spots to sight in a rifle? Got a new one and going out for a hunt at the end of this month so cant go to range day

Taupo range.

Thanks! In terms of getting an RO there, after signing up to shoot, do i need to contact an RO or will they say "come on this day" sorta thing?
Sign up, do the RO course get in the register. I know clubs where most of their membership is recorded as being range officers. It's not hard, just a bit of reading and some questions

But you can't just magic one up.
The thing will be to try and go along on one of their standard range days and people are bound to try and help you out if you want it. Look for their contacts on NZDAtaupo.org.nz and send them a message or phone call. Most branches just have one range day a month.
Alternatives are Thames Valley Branch and Bay of Plenty Branch, which could be on a weekend that suits you. Do a bit of web & FB research to get in touch. Waikato Branch's next one is in September.
Gonna be a lot more sighting in done on DOC land around Taupo now I reakon..always stop in there on the way to Clement’s to check zero..usually only 3 or 4 shots,seems over the top to me needing a range officer present.

Makes a lot of sense doesn't it especially when there have been NO major injuries or deaths on a range (except police have had injuries), yet there seems to have been a few fatalities when hunting.

Just sign a bit of paper to say you've read and understand the rules and you are a RO, makes a mockery of the RO training at other ranges.

For the DOC Teetotal Range at St Arnaud you are required to read range standing orders before they issue a permit to use. It’s a step in the right direction so users know their obligations without being too onerous. Pretty similar to how local Clay Target Club,Pistol club,NZDA and NZNRA ranges work.
