What are my options for sighting in a couple of rifles somewhere in the Nelson region?
I'm not a member of the NZDA (yet, hopefully next year) can members take guests to NZDA ranges?
Other option could be the Cable Bay range. Is it still going?
Are there any easy to get to spots on public hunting land that are good for sighting in?

As far as I know the cable bay range is still going...you will need to be inducted/a range officer. Give Bruce a ring.
Nzda range is a great facility but access is a bit limited being threw forestry its let in and out in convoy at set times weekends only and subject to the whim of the forestry managers.
There is also the pistol club range at dovedale I think...I haven't been there for years but I imagine you will have to join and be a range officer.
There is a sight in range at Teetoatal flats in st Arnard also and you have to see the local doc branch before using it.
Thanks. I was a bit confused about what you needed to do to become an RO but it looks like you just go into the DoC office, show then your license and permits and sign the form.
The lad is keen to head out to that spot for goats that you told us about, so St Arnaud is pretty much on the way. :thumbsup:
St Arnaud front up to the visitor centre and be inducted as an RO, Cable Bay ring Bruce and make a time for him to induct you as an RO, deerstalkers is weekends only up Sharlands Creek, but there is also the NZDA one at Murchison.
I'm a NZDA member but work every weekend so normally use Cable Bay.
Cable Bay is a good range :D
