South Island Big Bore shoot 13/14 Feb 2016

Thanks to @Harryg we have a farm to shoot on, close to Kurow. We should be able to camp there to. Possibility of some wallaby shooting as well.

So my thoughts, meet at Kurow around midday Sat 13 Feb. Travel to farm set up targets etc. Couple of hours of target shooting. BBQ and bullshit session to round off afternoon. Sunday morning wallaby shoot? (Will need to discuss this with the farmer)

    Format for target shooting possibly

    Big Bore (9.3 and up?)

3x shots at 50yds using shooting sticks, shooting at a scored target ie 10 ring, 9 ring etc

3x shots at 50yds freehand, shooting at a scored target

3x shots, timed. After first shot timer starts next two to be fired in 3-4 seconds 1 at 50yds off sticks, one freehand at 40yds, one freehand at 25yds, reactive type target (balloons, pieces of wood etc)

4x shots timed, shoot 2 shots at reactive target at 50yds, reload and shoot 2 more reactive targets at 50yds. Each miss is 5 seconds added to time.

Do something similar for "plains game rifles" but longer distances, ie 100yds instead of 50 yds.

Who's keen? Any other suggestions for what target format?

Some one needs to bring one of these
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

It would be nice to consider more time allowance for the really big boys especially the singles and doubles.
Lets face it those are the ones we would love to see come out of their cabinets ... "the stopping rifles".
Those of us with 9.3 and 375 repeaters with scope sights would have a huge advantage otherwise.

I have a couple of articles on african big bore shoots in some South African publications left by visiting hunters.
Will dig them out and get your details via PM scan and email them to you.
Just might be of interest as quite a few of their targets were moving ( charging ) along a type of flying fox system.

@robhughes-games There will be a "plains game" section which is for calibre a smaller than 9.3mm. I thought the target format would be similar to the big bores but further distance, 100 yds instead of 50yds.

Yep it will be fine, Would probably fit better in the "plains game" section, unless it is open sighted.

I figure the smaller (less than 9.3mm) calibres will be scope sighted rifles so 50yds is probably a bit close for them. So it will be a similar style of targets but 100yds instead of 50 yds.
