    Outstanding article I reckon!
I know both parents of the teenagers in the article and they are doing an outstanding job of educating their teenagers in life skills.
At least they know where their meat comes from unlike alot of youth of today!
I have three boys 19 to 15 and it is with great pride I can send them of before daylight from the saftey of my sleeping bag and they bring back their kill gutted and ready for hanging!
    My job is done!
Well almost, just got the youngest to get their licence now!

It’s that type of positive “read” that will only benefit us all.

The media have just about run out of slander articles pertaining to law abiding firearms owners, the idea that they should produce something positive was now, probably, their only option left

    Good article for a change.

..........but the cynic in me keeps whispering that the anti gun brigade will spin it to express outrage about the 'poor innocent children that are being brainwashed by their parents to accept that death dealing weapons have a place in our ideal world'..........And that young people should be able to 'Make up their own mind without interference from adults'....

Agree, there seemed to be a subtext of OH MY GOD, A 16YR OLD HAS A FIREARMS LICENSE AND SHOOTS UNACCOMPANIED.
Would someone please think of the children

    On face value, laudable.

To me if one reads carefully, the article smacks of the prevailing MSM aggrandisement of the female gender whilst simultaneously denigrating that of the male. Interspersed with a hint of self-promotion.

it was positive, which is good for firearms owners right now

there was a predictable slant on ability of young people to be safe, by Stuff, But at least the AUT psychotherapist. did qualify it re how kids are raised/taught positively. homicide data
and Nicole McKee did a great job again.

showing the public that firearms owners are actually not rabid pro gun red necks is whats needed..

Interesting article - some selective commentary from so called experts.

Are young persons of the same age also eligible to obtain a NZ drivers license ?

She explains that a 16-year-old's prefrontal cortex, which is the part responsible for decision making, has a long way to becoming fully developed. Teenagers are also still developing the capacity to regulate their own emotions, developing the capacity to have empathy and they are more prone to experience negative feelings than the average adult, and they feel those feelings way more intensely.

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

Read the article, piss all over it, as it was comparing mental abilities of males v females, JesusFnChrist, i have had enough of the feminist 'slant' to last a lifetime.

Just once, I would like to see a positive article about women in the shooting sports without all the bullshit.

Fact: Women are better shooters than men.
Fact: Women are easier to train than men (still need to be trained though)
Fact: It has nothing to do with mental ability or maturity, but preconcieved notions on technique that men have and women do not

So Gdmn tired of these articles that marginalize men for no other reason that what amounts to penis envy.

Many lives ago I used to train teenagers in basic range procedure, small arms handling and shooting and in one of those lives bushcraft and survival training. Pretty basic stuff all of it in comparison with what is probably taught now.

The comment I can make, especially in regard to shooting, is that all considered the young women were better than the men.

    Why?

They came along without any preconceived ideas. They didn't have a 'penis' so didn't believe that they had to know all this stuff already. They didn't have all the male testosterone fueled shit and imagery that most young males come imbued with especially in the presence of young females. Basically the young men had to get over their attitudes before you could really teach them anything meaningful. The young women didn't believe they knew anything so were very receptive of new knowledge and put it in to practice much faster. What's the saying, "The mind is like a cup, you can't put anymore in it if it is already full" .... or words to that effect.

As to penis envy. Why would anyone be envious of a penis when I consider, along with the testosterone fueled bullshit it comes with, all the shit and grief it has got me into over the years.

    Cheers
    Phil
You will get no disagreement there.

It would be nice for once to get a real simple article on shooting without sex, or politics entering into it and muddying what otherwise was a well written article.

I suppose it would be a good read, but not as attention getting.

One good thing with it featuring females is that no media organisation/personality will criticize it as they won't want the "sexism card" thrown against them. Another reason why I reckon that the new Hunting with Tui programme will be good because it won't be criticized because no one will want to be classed as sexist or racist....

Sounds silly; but that's why I think we should be grateful for Hunting Aotearoa; without it I doubt there would be any hunting programmes on tv; because no one was prepared to criticize it for fear of being labeled racist. Now there is a plethora of hunting programmes; even Kai Time on the Road had a lot of hunting content
