Wanted, ideas for reactive target(s)

It just so happens that over the years I have accumulated a fair few pulled primers(unfired that is) due to various cock ups and mistakes:oh noes:, and looking to put them to 'interesting' use ;) I must have in excess of 500, so there is scope for something "BIG", or several/many "small" events. They are pretty sensitive little suckers(as I've found out the hard way a couple of times :ORLY:) so I figure something cute could be done with them.
All ideas will be treated/evaluated with safety in mind, and if anything goes wrong I'll deny everything !

Press them into the bottom of fireworks like the ones you put on the ground, they will have a loud and unexpected finale!

What I do with my kids for their air rifle at 30 metres is glue primers to the back of large printed paper targets. Then just put dots over all where the primers are.

Could always make up something the size of a dartboard with the primers sandwiched between 2 sheets of paper and hope it all goes kaboom.For an unsuspecting shooter would be even better.

definitely NOT an idea to pursue at anything other than longer range, but I liked Norway's idea of shooting a shotgun shell.

A variant I have heard of involves an auger, and a (loaded) shottie shell in a tree stump ...

Diesel in a can on a fire. Let it boil before shooting. Impressive fireball.

We used to do that all the time. Good .17 targets at 100 mtrs. Good shooting as small target at that range. Yep I know naughty naughty !!!

A local importer has been trying to get "proper" reactive targets in for a wee while, I think they might be struggling a bit, but are apparently making progress.....time will tell I guess :)

the shotgun shell went off and sent up a plume of smoke ... and became a permanent feature of the stump - unable to be removed ...

They don't grenade. Its a bit of a non event really.. Quiet bang plume of smoke no big deal ...
That's from 50 to 100 mtrs I wouldn't stand any closer but they become part of the tree stump.

Its way more fun to shoot cans of baked beans stacked up with the 300 win mag
Put a coin on the post under them the energy is so great it stamps the coin details into the bottom of the can..
Can goes 20 to 30 ft in the air just waaaooooph.
Same deal at least 100 mtrs away from that.

Cheapest is the old plastic milk bottles or coke bottle filled with water, just a PIA to clean up..
Can mix some red wtr based paint in if you want colour ..

Its easy to make those targets yourself. Perfectly safe and no need to import anything.

get some diet coke, put some normal mint mentos in and close the bottle quicksmart before it reacts.

Urea and diesel iirc needs a lot of pressure to make it go off? If that's right would a 308 create enough force?

Urea nitrate and it's fuel mixture needs a detenator, a bullet won't do it.

The exploding targets you see on you tube are prilled ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder. Requires a rifle bullet to detonate, totally safe to handle.

Can anyone buy a detenator?

You could probably make one. How much do you enjoy having fingers?

You can also do exploding targets with UN +Al.

It's a bit of a myth that you just add diesel to Urea to make a bomb, the stuff needs to be converted to another compound first, using nitric acid I think. And when produced it needs a shock wave to detonate it.

In England I used to spread tonnes and tonnes of actual Ammonium Nitrate and they were pretty careful how they stored that stuff and it may have even been a controlled substance. All that needed was diesel and a blasting cap which would be pretty easy to make. But if you want to play with explosives I advise you join the Army or get tthe quals and go to the mines in Oz.

I think the formula is 94% Ammonium Nitrate & 6 % diesel plus a detonator, I would have thought a shotgun shell would do the trick just nicely. The chain reaction produces a shitload of oxygen which feeds the beast.

You can set it of as a low order explosive too, by simply igniting it. Pretty versatile stuff, grow your tomatoes, move rocks and blow up infidels.

Maybe not, RE burning. It's been a while since I researched the shit.
