Where can I shoot my semi-auto shotgun?

Hi, this might sound like a silly question, but where can I go and shoot my semi-auto shotgun in the Bay of Plenty?

I am not a member of any clubs and just want to go shoot a few rounds.

    Look forward to any response.

Perhaps find a local clay target club, I am sure most allow guests shoot..................even with a "dirty gun" (semi's).

You might only be allowed to load 2 at a time but shooting clays is way better than just blasting away at static targets for the hell of it.

I started shooting clays with a Semi Auto but soon found picking up empties off the ground gets real old real fast.

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

river bed rabbits are good fun...just be sure to seek appropriate permission from nearby landowners if relevant... and dont be a dick about it...a big barrage of shots just pisses of nearby people.

Just stand on your back porch and let rip - that oughta get some attention...

(just kidding - go to your local gun club and ask. )

it does sound like a strange question, but there is an easy answer; you can legally fire it anywhere you could legally fire a single shot shotgun, unless there is a restriction such as duck shooting or range rules!

Around Tauranga I think you'd need to know someone with a farm, orchard or forestry block and who will let you have a bomb-up in a back gully or forestry skid.

I lived there 30 years ago and even then it was difficult to find a place to have a blat... there were a few road-ends, forest access tracks and illegal tip sites I used but I wouldn't risk it now. The Western BOP is so closely settled nowadays and unlike Canterbury and Otago there are no wide gravelly riverbeds or scrubby wastelands in Crown ownership.

Join a club would be the best idea... there's a good chance you'll meet others who enjoy a bit of informal shooting.

I started clay shooting with a semi-auto at various clubs. Most clay target clubs tolerate them, but don't like them, especially shooting trap. Skeet and sporting shooters are somewhat more accepting of them. You'll probably find club's range rules require a mag limiter so you can only load one shell in the mag and one in the chamber.

BOP clay target club at TECT park let you shoot semi autos - not frowned upon too much. Check the website for practice days to rock up at.

Nip over the Kaimais to my place and you can hammer away to your hearts content, wander around after dark and bang a few possums or there is a modern clay thrower, bring your own clays.

Any clay target club will welcome you, and far as I know they aren't frowned upon like some say.
You might even enjoy it, nzcta rules do say the mag should be made incapable of holding more than 1 round, but in 50 yrs I've never seen a gun checked,
Just load 1 in the MAG and don't be a dick..
