I think I read somewhere, possibly here, that someone was paying 7.5c per round for CCI standard velocity.
I see reloaders doing 5000/$531 at 9.4c/round, maybe that is a good deal, or not? I am not usually buying .22lr.
Thanks

@Dundee ?
I just found a brick of subs in the bottom of my safe!! Need to drag one of my 22s out and waste some! Nice! And cheap!
was getting them cheap as chips from PGG Wrightson but haven't bought any for a while, will ask tomorrow what they are going for now.
Thanks guys, having checked out the other thread (never heard of the bucket of bullets before) the cci price is looking fairly good. A little cheaper than the bucket and I know they cycle the gun well.
I get them for free from the Environment Government for pest control
I do pest control, I get it by the brick
Clubs often buy in bulk, where i occasionally shoot the last last lot i got was winchester, similar to the cci std, worked out at $40 per brick after their markup.
seems very cheap at $4 for 50 rounds

my price is cheaper:D
Some of my work involves security around farm s and as I do pest work on them at the same time central government supply me with ammo. Any farmer would meet this criteria I would have thought.
walk in the door of your environment office and ask. Have done this for probably 20+ yrs. Environment Waikato/ Environment Canterbury etc
Serious shooters special of M.22, $199/2000 seems OK as far as retail sources. Its a special so not sure how long it will last but I have to say I would rather pay a little bit more for the CCI than buy a couple thousand of something I dont know how well it will run.
A few weeks ago, I bought a brick (500) CCI 40gr standard velocity, from Rusty Dog, in Pukekohe, for $69.99 which I thought wasn't too bad. Dunno if they're still doing it.
most places are doing a brick of SV for $69, it's $59 at reloaders and others may match, not sure. $53/brick if you buy 10 of them :)
Our club sells CCI std velocity for $50/ brick, with about $10/ brick profit to the club.
The club bought these in bulk to get a better price.
Cheers
Pete
Just don't buy Shotmaxx bulk from Guncity like our club, rubbish rubbish rubbish
How come subs are more expensive than standards. A brick of cci subs costs 89 dollars from reloaders.

Probably because of the extra difficulty of making a round that fits in a narrow velocity band. Whereas Supers just have to go fast. Different projectile construction too, subs softer and designed to work at that speed
Does anyone in Chch stock Geco?
Serious Shooters have CCI standard for $57.50 per brick at the moment. If you stand still long enough, they'll make you a coffee too
No generally check out this thread;

Haha. Yeah. I started that thread but got a bit of conflicting info so am still not sure. Someone on another thread also said they lost 80fps shortening their .22lr. The difference between subsonic and standard velocity ammo is only about 40fps.
From Wikipedia,
"The velocity of standard-velocity .22 LR rounds varies between manufacturers. Some standard velocity ammo may be slightly supersonic-around 1,125 ft/s (343 m/s), other ammo such as CCI Standard Velocity .22 LR ammunition is rated at 1070 fps."
1070fps is subsonic. Speed of sound at 0 degrees C is 1125fps ......ish
According to Wikipedia,
"speed of sound in air at 68 °F (20 °C) is about 1,115 ft/s (340 m/s), the subsonic round's muzzle velocity is slightly below the speed of sound under many hunting conditions. However, under cold air conditions at 32 °F (0 °C), the speed of sound drops to 1,088 ft/s (332 m/s)"
This may explain why my once subsonic 200gn 308 reounds decided to get louder when I moved down south:)
This is just getting more confusing.
Why are "match" rounds standard velocity????
Surely they go through the trans- sonic stage on the way to the target. Something that is not supposed to help accuracy????
Yep speed of sound is 1116 fps at sea level as I recall, and drops as altitude increases. I once hunted possums at over 1000 masl and Subsonic .22 were going super every shot.
Was looking at the Eley web site recently. Their standard velocity is quoted at 1070 fps for target ammo. Their subsonic hunting is quoted at 1040 fps. As other have noted standard velocity should be subsonic in most conditions.
And their high velocity rounds where at 1250 fps both for the 38 gr hollow noise and the 42 gr round nose.
