Why so difficult/impossible to get 9mm carbine in NZ?

I love the idea of a 9mm carbine that takes glock mags, so that my handgun and rifle can use the same mags, but why is it so amazingly difficult to find?

nzar15 has a PSA 9mm Carbine, when I called Oct 2017 they told me they will be in stock Nov 2017, since then every month I call they say "just wait until next month" and now it will soon be June 2018 and still not in stock. Also the price is really high (in the US the PSA is considered a ultra-budget "few hundred bucks" AR, but NZar15's lowest price is 1800), which means that I can buy a very high quality rifle of other caliber for the same price that I can only get ultra-budget 9mm caliber. Also they can't even be bothered showing a picture how the A-stock will look.

GunCity has Just Right Carbine, but it's super heavy bull barrel, and can't be split in half. And so many youtube videos claim that it's unacceptably bad rifle (one major reviewer wasn't even able to review it because it jammed with any bullet brand he tried)

Importing seems to be nearly impossible due to the USA export registration fee + NZ GST + needing to be an expert in what to get, needing to understand e-cat import-procedure like expert etc

Oh and GunsNZ has some 9mm but they are like 4000 nzd Im not sure if I want to move into that kind of terretory of prices. also they seem to be pre-order/awaiting-police-review etc as well and with no pic of A-stock mod

So after a year of looking, should I just accept that this particular caliber just not gonna happen?

If you want better than PSA, you will be paying even more. This is one of he trade offs of living in New Zealand.

Well when I compare my other rifles to US prices, I seem to find that NZ is about 40-50% more expensive, which I find to be acceptable.
But these 9mm carbines seems to be like 300% more expensive which makes me think I might just have to give up on that dream.

Do you have a B Cat licence? If you do the Mechtech is another option, that is basically an upper for a glock. Chuck a 33 round glock mag in and have barrels of fun.

Keep an eye out for a QC10 or parts thereof. Eventually you end up with a complete working rifle

You can buy parts, I think gunsupplies has the GBC lower + 9mm barrel and bolts in stock.. The rest is just standard AR parts..

I tried one using the GBC lower the other day and it worked fine, I only had a quick blat but have seen it running without issue in the past using glock mags.

It is going to run you $1140 for just the stripped lower, barrel and bolt but you can get the whole thing finished for ~2k

Speaking of Ruger, when is that new Ruger 9mm carbine due to arrive here? Takes Glock mags and I imagine it would be around the $1500-$1700NZ mark.
