    You busy South Islanders

Mainlanders are twice as likely to own a firearm than North Islanders.

About 8 per cent of South Islanders are standard firearm licence holders, compared to just 4 per cent in the North Island, according to police data.

About one in 10 people have a firearm licence in the Tasman police district, an area that runs from Kaikoura, around the top of the South Island and down the West Coast to Haast. In contrast, Auckland City police district has just 6000 licence holders, or about one in 70 people.

Canterbury has more licence holders than any other New Zealand police district, with about 34,000 licensed people, or 6 per cent of the population.

But it is ignoring the unlicensed firearms owners.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Well after reading that I now find myself to be in a minority. One of only six thousand firearms license holders in a city of one and a half million people. Mind you don't discriminate against me now.

Of course. The article was about licensed folks. It also didn't count purple elephants in the wild.

OK my bad. That was just the City Central police area. Manukau counties, Waitakere and North Shore have different numbers. Doh! There are over 30,000 in the region
