Bit of history (Which you probably already know) the Kerrs arrived in Nelson and disembarked safely. The Fyfeshire then tried to sail out of Nelson, but got caught by the current or wind) and crashed into the rock which now bears that name.
John Kerr was the first European to turn a sod of earth in Nelson, using a team of bullocks to pull the plough. There is a bronze plaque set in the footpath marking the spot.
About 15 years ago I attended the Kerr family reunion in Nelson, I was probably too young to appreciate all the work which went into the reunion and especially the re-enactment of the oxen ploughing.
The Cemetaries around Nelson are full of Kerrs....Not me though....
