Harpo RE John Harpham @ Taupo just joined and wish to say hello to all the other folk

Best wishes to all members of this community.
Fortunately, I stumbled across this forum whilst trying to find some info on the Rem 280 Akley improved caliber.
So by way of introduction here is a bit of info on myself.
I am 67 years of age and have been a keen hunter since 13. When placing game meat on the table was a top priority.
I am a time-served fitter and turner machinist, self-employed for the last 40 years and still enjoying working in the trade.
I started reloading when I was 16 also driven by economics and the desire to continue eating quality fresh from mother nature.
Rabbit shooting and game bird hunting came first followed by a lifetime of pig hunting and deer stalking.
Clay bird shooting has been a passion along with Black powder including a homemade 41 mm beast of a cannon as well.
Much enjoyment has been obtained by experimenting with many rifles of excellent quality of lots of calibers
Nowadays I stick with Shultz &Larsen, BRNO & BSA rifles from the 1950s to the late 60s when mass-produced was not an option. I prefer the 7mm caliber. HAPPY SAFE HUNTING TO ALL YOU NEAT FOLKS OUT DO IT. Best regards from HARPO

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Welcome Harpo. Question: Was it your brother that had a camp on a tributary of the Mokoro? There was a plaque on the spur opposite. Both the camp and the plaque saved me serious grief on a couple of occasions. Long story!

I had a Shultz and Larsen 270 for a while in the early 1960's.
Lovely rifle except when I ejected a shell case, it would sometimes strike the scope body and flick back in to the receiver to get jammed by the next round.
Maybe that rifle is still around somewhere - unique in that the whole of one side was beautifully carved by a talented maori artist I never knew.
After that I got a Belgian FN Supreme 270 and used it for many decades - another nice rifle.
Now that I'm 84, I use a Howa 308, but I have a problem with it putting weight on every time I go into the bush with it
I'm lucky enough to have access to a private block in the Akatarawas with nice flat old logging tracks I can walk along without falling over 2 often, and can take the sack barrow up to carry meat out. I don't get too excited about heads, but some I've seen in there have heavy timber like the mother-in-law's ankles, I kid you not.
It's good to chat with a meat hunter mate. I could never take a head and waste meat, and anyway, I already have too much trestosterone for my own good.
As they say, The blinder we get, the more we can see.
Like you, this is my first real post on here.
I'm not even sure this will work because I don't see anywhere a button that says SEND - bit strange.
    Keep the powder dry.

good on you chaps for giving this new fandangled techno stuff a go.
some beautiful classic rifles have passed through your hands by the sounds of it.
when you feel really brave, have a go and posting up some of your older photos... easy once you get hang of it... grab one of the grandkids and they will show you how and probably be able to do it on cellphone too!!!
