About LinkBacksHey guys, last weekend I got out for a hunt with AndrewH, Rushy and Phillipgr and heard a lot about the forum.
My name is Bryce.
I am a mad keen hunter who enjoys going on adventures, into Nature and getting the opportunity to enjoy the resources which we have in NZ.
I am a firm believer that the city life is detached from the reality of what the state of nature is. Life,death & where our pretty packaged meat in the butchers comes from (I.e involves an animal giving its life).
Getting out into the bush really brings this home to me and helps me to get perspective when things don't go to plan in the monetary/city world etc
I have had the pleasure of being born and growing up in Nz. I am now 24 years old and got my first deer rifle from my 3 brothers family and friends for my 21st birthday... The best present I have ever received.
I have had the privilege of being taught the basics of hunting by a work colleague and friend who is very experienced in hunting Doc land and after 18 months shot my first deer. Now I have dropped in excess of 10 & 2 of them shot side by side in DoC land March last year.
Primarily my hunting experiences have been in the Ruapehu, Kaimanawha, kaipara, and tongariro areas.
There is possibly the opportunity for me to head to Fiordland for the roar this year providing it is a priority at the time.
Currently working on to following projects:
1-Constructing and testing slower, heavier and round nose projectiles from my suppressed 7mm -08win for up to 100m shooting-counter to the hit 'em hard and fast mindset.
2-Planning my first OE to get out of NZ, to cut loose from the corporate world and enjoy some hunting /make new friends all over the world.
3-Creating some Sub-sonic rounds with trail boss powder for snotting Possums with my new suppressed 7mm-08
4-getting my 21st present suppressed .243win to under 1 inch at 200m.
Any advice would be appreciated from the community...

Welcome to the forum Brycey. That dunny pic is a classic.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Hi Brycey, subs in the 7mm08 is easy with trailboss, you dont mention your barrel length but start with a case of trailboss up to the shoulder junction (1400fps) and work down in powder weight until you get the speed and accuracy you want, they will go subsonic under 1130fps at sea level @ 20deg celcius or thereabouts.
A lot is going to depend on the accuracy you want.A big fast bullet beats a little fast bullet every time

I had the barrel cut down to est 18.5 inches although I have not measured it since the work was done it will be fairly close. What projectile would you recommend? I cannot find any round nose ones. Running a MAE over barrel.
