Thread: Keen to learn

Hey guys,
My name is Zac. I'm a self employed builder, just moved to Featherston and have been getting a lot more interested in hunting over the past few months. My wife and I have a 2yr old girl and just had a little boy 8 weeks ago. I'm definitely new to deer hunting, having only shot one hind a few years ago - most of the time I'm only finding goats and the occasional pig. Have been learning a lot over the last few months and am keen to pick up as much knowledge from the group here as possible. Hopefully one day I'll be able to help some new guys out too!

Nice! Where do you do that? I've got a 2yo girl who I've started to take out walking in the bush. She loves it - will be great to take them out when they are older

It will be interesting to see if she can be quite for any duration I told her about it tonight and shes keen as, asked her if she wants to just look at deer or if dad should shoot one, shoot it dad, more sausages sweet

Welcome to the forum Zac, lots of great people here, and enjoy the Wairarapa. I have two girls 4 and 2 and they definitely take up some time along with everything else that goes on in life. I decided to take up hunting/shooting when my first was born, think I must have needed a hobby or an excuse to get out by myself

@Martin358 lives pretty close to the Holdsworth area.
He'd be worth a chat.
I looked at the DOC Pesticide summaries - 1080 being laid from mid March to first week April over the Holdsworth area.
Probably be better off giving the Rimutaka's and the area behind Ocean Beach a go.
Kiddies could find the going a bit tough as it's pretty steep terrain from what I've seen.

Welcome ZacP. I to have children, a boy and a girl who I took out hunting and Possum trapping. The Daughter is not so keen now (19yrs) funny that. The Son at 6'5'' and 118kgs is still very keen and can be handy at times for carrying things. The point is get them started young and they will get to love and enjoy and love the outdoors.

I do most of my "ute hunting" on Trademe. Usually no problem getting something.

Hi Zac is there a NZDA branch near you? Some run Hunts courses over a few weekends all ages good place to meet up with people at same level as you.

Jeez Zac look what you've gone and done. Gibo hasn't put his clown face on since that time he was arrested for juggling his balls in a public place. Welcome by the way.
