Long time wannabee hunter, short time FA "owner"

Hiya all,
Stumbled on this forum while searching or info on semi-auto .22LR's. Joined up a while back, but mainly just been reading as I ddin't have much to say at the time.
Been meaning to get my FA for many years, but never got around to it until bout this time last year.
First true hunting experience was Waikaremoana when I was about 11 or 12 with my old man. That pretty much got me hooked on NZ outdoors and I've been meaning to get motivated ever since.
Been out tramping/camping so many times, and finally thought it was about time I carried something more worthwhile than a sharp stick with me.
Now I have a Remington 597 .22 and an Enfield ex-service .303, as well as use of Dad's old favourite Winchester .308 (he's grown rather attached to his SKS).

Good to hear from you peril, where in the country do you hunt mostly

First trip out after receiving license was Stewart Island (of all places) in April. Saw very fleeting glimpses of 1, another in our party saw 2, but no-one managed to shoot anything, not a single round fired in 10 days. Would go back in a heartbeat.
I haven't been out anywhere since, other than to a couple of mates farms after possums.
to be honest, I don't have the faintest idea of where to go, or even how to legally gain access to any of the hunting areas.
Hopefully this forum will be the wealth of information I hope it to be. :)

I plan on sticking around, I've been on another NZ shooting forum but the attitudes of some were rather disappointing.

There's nothing wrong with Tinfoil Hats, Mines double thickness and if people look at you funny just remember its there thoughts the Govt is stealing, yours are safe under the tinfoil!!!!

Only thing better than tinfoil is Armadillo :D
