New bloke from Australia

G'day all,

I've just stumbled across this site while searching for sale listings of Anschutz 1532 rifles of which I have two.
I'm a retired physical education teacher who specialised in working with violent children and adults with disabilities. I live on a small rural property in western Victoria and, until the recent prolonged drought, ran a small herd of Angus cows breeding calves for market. All but two cows are gone to market now. I have a collection of air rifles for hunting and several old 10m target air rifles which are great fun to shoot off the back porch. I also have a BRNO #2 in .22 LR, a Weihrauch HW66P in .22 magnum and the two Anschutz plus a Weihrauch HW 60J in .222 Rem. I mostly hunt hares and foxes, though have dropped a pig or two as well as culling 'roos under permit for local farmers when they have bred to excess.

Hiya Jim, I'm a born & bred Aussie & spent my last 13 years on a small hobby farm Corryong way. I, the same as you used to hunt my own place & hop onto the neighbours for a roo or two. I see you like the european rifles...I have a one of the new Weihrauch HW 66 Hunting Match rifles on order here in .222. I left Aussie for good about 3 years ago for the Otago region of the South Island. The ever increasing heat of summer, the dust, the flies, the fires...gawd...it can be a hostile place. Here...I have a green lawn all year, there is nothing to bite me ...really don't miss brown snakes.... no ants to demolish my fruit ..just no ants at all!!!! Population is tiny compared to Oz. Everywhere you look is a spectacular view & the kiwis are the friendliest you will ever find...such a wonderful country!!! Off course you have game that Australia just doesn't support ... enjoy the forum Dave

The South Island sounds nice. I don't mind Australia's dry heat - except for the bush fire danger - in summer. The only real worry is the economic situation and the rampant youth crime which has not affected us in the rural areas - yet. Being on the land means I can still keep my machete in spite of the Victorian Government banning them.

The Weihrauch HW66 Jagd Match looks brilliant in the advertisements I've seen. My HW66J and my HW60P both came with light two stage triggers. They break at about 8 ozs. Combined with the accuracy of .222 Rem ammunition it's hard to miss the target. I have been told Weihrauchs with the two-stage trigger are no longer sold here due to 'safety regulations' - whatever that means.

Yep "Some numpty banned machete’s"!

It was our socialist Left state Premier because local lads, generally teenager gangs, like to use them on each other and during armed home invasions. They like to steal cars from private homes. When caught they are given repeated bail - the same Premier weakened the bail laws a couple of years ago out of compassion for the dear, under-age treasures - forcing the Police to operate catch and release programs. Some of the thugs are on multiple bails for very serious crimes - because they are under-age. The Premier's solution has been to spend $A13 million installing machete deposit bins outside Police stations and demand all owners of machetes turn them in. Exemptions are granted for those in horticulture/agriculture. In the meantime the likely lads are still running around hacking at each other and anyone else in the way. Being crims they don't obey Laws and hand in their weapons. A few weeks ago two lads on their way home from sports training were hacked to death by a gang of 7 youths. One had both hands severed. So much for the socialist paradise that is the State of Victoria.
