    New Hunter Down South

    Hey guys,

Been lurking on the forum for a while—figured it’s about time I threw up an intro post.

New to hunting this year, based down around the Clutha district, and still getting my head around bush stalking (and how not to get lost every five minutes).
Definitely keen to keep learning from the more experienced hunters here.

None of my mates are into hunting, so I’ve been going solo—mostly hitting the open tops around Central. Managed to get a few animals under the belt so far, including my first stag, thanks to a bit of advice from this forum.

Looking forward to soaking up more knowledge and sharing a few yarns.

    Cheers,
Trout, Shearer, Micky Duck and 3 others like this.

    Welcome aboard

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Way back before GPS was a thing. We would park/ camp by creek/fence/ bush edge and call that a back stop feature. If it ran in say a north-south direction we would start hunt at right angles to it so head east for hour.turn either north or south for hour or so then again turn right angle and head back west until hit backstop feature again... It still works and isn't as complicated as it sounds. It is just like driving around the block if you missed drive way lol. Welcome.
