New Member, Advice on 6MM ARC

    Gday Team.

Just recently joined, not sure why I didn’t join years ago!
Currently looking into building an all rounder hunting rifle. Keen to hear people’s advice or opinions on the 6mm ARC.
Looking at a Howa Mini Action 20” carbon barrel and dropping it into the Elude stock/folder. Also if people have load data for a 6mm arc or even dies I could be interested! Thanks

Welcome, to answer your question on your other post regarding selling your riffles, the buy/sell opens up for you after you have been a member for a while and have made quite a few posts.

Good luck with your riffle build and enjoy the forum

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

This is just my opinion and others are sure to vary.
I had a Howa 6mm ARC recently but moved it on reasonably quickly.
My one was a 20 inch varmint barrel and I tried it in both a standard Houge stock and a MDT LSS chassis.
It shot factory Hornady 108gr ammo very well , but I had originally purchased it with the idea of using projectiles in the 80gr - 90gr range which suits my type of shooting better .
Well after a lot of testing and experimenting I just couldn’t get it to perform the way I wanted.
The whole appeal of the ARC in a bolt gun was that you can crank up the pressure/velocity over the factory ammo which is loaded mild to accommodate the fact that the vast majority of ARC rifles are on the AR15 platform.
My Howa just didn’t accept those higher velocities/ powder charges and accuracy went to pot .
Reducing the load down to below factory velocity’s made it shoot well again.
But that put it right inline with my 6x45 ( 6mm 223 ) so I couldn’t see the point of keeping it .
I liked the Rifle but the cartridge didn’t meet the hype in my particular case .

Welcome. I've had a bunch of the x39s and x30rem s, there have been Grendels, Valkyries and ARCs amoung others. But none these days. The 6 ARC I had shot well, poked out 103s pretty fast (2800s +, a hot liad and the brass didnt last) but I didn't see any real advantage to them, a 223 will be cheaper and easier to run in a mini action and a 6mm CM will be a lot more authoritative in a short action. They have (maybe) some "cool factor" but it's hard to beat a cartridge that maximizes the potential in its action size - fast twist 223 in a mini and CM something in a Short action

In a short light weight rifle what is not to like
    Low recoil
    Accurate factory ammo
    Quite when supressed
450 yards on reds 500 odd on goats
Fun to shoot and great for youth shooters.
I don't think there is any hype. It is legit a great cartridge for short to medium ranges for meat harvesting, culling and pest control.
If you were roar hunting choose neck shots.

We were out today and 3 deer taken with the 6arc.
    Was good fun.
I reckon it's a do it all cartridge > within reason of course

    I have a 6ARC built on a howa 1500 action.
    20inch barrel firing the 87gr Vmax @2900 with cfe223.
I've shot more than a few goats and fallow with it out to 450meters.
I like it alot, that my 223 just sits in the safe now.
