Red face New member checking in - Wellington based

    Hi everyone

I've finally registered after months of browsing the forum. I've learned so much from everyone's insights; this forum's an amazing resource!

I'm reasonably fit but only got my FAL this year so new to hunting. I'm a member of the Hutt Valley NZDA and planning to do HUNTS later in the year.

I've shot a few goats but yet to take a deer... so that is the #1 goal right now. Aiming to do a winter trip in the Aorgangi's over the coming weeks -- likely bush stalking mid-way up the ridge but no set plan on this. If anyone has any tips for approach or entry, that would be awesome, otherwise I'll keep sussing my way around.

    Cheers!

haha good to know. I've done a bit of tramping in Tararuas and Rimutakas but never been to Aorangis.

Thinking maybe head to Tauanui hut then stalk along the ridge at around the 400m mark and see how it goes. Reckon that could work?

i got my first deer in there, the ridge just up from the hutt, on the northern face, was good, but yeah if your into bush stalking then thats a decent spot to start also just a super early morning hunt up the river from the hutt can be rewarding, jsut remember... go slow, and then saay to yourself go even slower. We may be in there this coming weekend. unsure where yet, but was thinking tauani.

awesome, thanks bro, great to know it's a decent area to look in. I'm probably a few weeks from getting over there but we maybe we'll cross paths sometime. Thanks again and good luck for your hunt

Welcome, the HUNTS course is a good idea. Did it a while ago myself.
