    New Member introduction

Hi Everyone, thought i better introduce myself.

Im Texasheartshot and yes i have killed a deer by shooting it directly in the heart by way of anus and no i did not attempt to do this on purpose, it was more of a beginner mistake while the deer was running away from me. Even though I'm experienced enough to not take running shots at deer now, it was indeed one of my greatest hunting achievements and a moment i will never forget.

I started hunting about 7 years ago after returning to the eastern bay from living in Australia. It was a slow start as i had no one to teach me and didnt grown up hunting. My first hunts were in and around the wioeka George and the burn, tawa, korunga forks areas hunting river flats and clearings but now days i love a good bush stalk. I recently moved to Taupo and have built my own house here and set up my building company so am now just starting to find the time to get out hunting. So far i have picked up a sika stag and a spiker bush stalking the kiamanawas/Ahimanawas with my bergara .308 other than that i havnt had much luck but am starting to know a few different areas.

Just started reloading which im finding a great hobbie to relax at the end of the day or when ive had enough of the kids and just purchased a marlin 336 30-30 which im hoping to get out into the bush with in the coming weeks after i put a scope on it.

Have joined the Taupo NZDA and been getting down to the jack Dillon memorial gun range frequently. Other than that i know next to no one in Taupo and would like to make a few hunting buddies here.
Tentman, 308, Shearer and 4 others like this.

Sounds like a great start and continuance and at a time of life that leaves you plenty of runway. Well done. At 71 I'm frequently wishing quietly that I had done more younger. But there ya go. Welcome.

PS, lots of fun that 30-30! You could also try it with a Lyman 66A which in the bush can be better (quicker and to 180m-ish just as accurate) than a scope, and doesn't fog or blur in the wet. The 336 is drilled and tapped for one.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

Welcome aboard. Best you find you way to the CNI get together on 9Th Nov. Have a gander in the forum events section.
