    Newbie hunter

    Hi all

new here been around hunters for years but never really got involved. Step son has dragged me out a couple of times this summer so decided to give it a go. Have a JW15 which have been using for pest control on our block at home.

Needing advice re something bigger but for reds as plenty around here but need something that doesn't kick too hard as have a permanent shoulder injury.

    Thanks Gazza

    Welcome.

.308 would be fair punishing if you had an injury, even supressed.

I'll get flamed for saying .223, but if you're a competent shot it will do it.
    To calm the flamers:
If you're not handloading 7.62x39 is probably your best be off the shelf. Or one of the cowboy cartridges. 44 or 357mag, 30-30
    Alternatively a sub gauge shotgun.

You'll do well to find someone to have a turn with all of these and see which you prefer, mind you in hunting scenario you shouldn't be firing too many rounds...

Hmm hadn't considered 7.62x39 time to do some more research I do see the ammunition is cheap. Thanks

So I have bought a 22.250 Savage as it came available locally second hand at a steal of a price. Shoots well and I'm very happy with it so far
