Why are all introduction posts the same?

Hi everyone, I decided to make an account and introduce myself after a fair few months of trawling through the numerous forum threads, plenty of useful information and have learnt a bunch already.

I am a pretty new hunter, having dabbled in it periodically throughout my life shooting rabbits, possums and goats but not until recently had I been out chasing deer with a good friend of mine and it was awesome. So I am keen to learn as much as I can and hopefully provide a few storys (and learn a few lessons) along the way!

Was living in the big smoke of Palmerston North and had been on a handful of fallow/sambar hunts but have now moved home back to Taranaki, really keen to get out as often as I can and give it a good go, also recently joined NZDA here in Taranaki.

Recently got my FAL so am in the market for both a .22 and a .308 so hopefully be able to utilize the forum to get my hands on both.

Thanks for the wealth of information you all put into the forum, it's a really great resource, Safe and happy hunting!!!

But the advice on the 22 is very sound.

Cheers lads. Just taking the piss about the title, was trying to make it different from the usual lol. Looking forward to getting a .22, any suggestions on one? Would probably be looking to spend around $500-$1500 all up

I you just want a general .22 for busting bunnies and popping possums then a Ruger 10/22 will do the business and fit well within your budget.

Maybe I’ll have to take that comment with a grain of salt if he loves Waikato, everyone knows Heineken is the top dog of beers

For a 22 id just keep an eye out for a nice second hand one. Unlikley it will have a worn out barrel. And after looking for a while youl get a feel for the prices. Just because they are old doesnt mean they arent good quality

well you live in a great part of the country for hunting..... a .22lr and a .308 will see you right but a .223 just begs to be owned in fallow and goat country.

Ain’t that the truth. Just check out the regular damage that Dundee does with his bloody old Stirling.
