Our SX40HS is starting to play up, and shortly my wife and boy are heading away to England and Scotland on the boys training/playing trip of a lifetime. Looking at these 2 in particular. Ease of use, close ups of players, quality of pictures, blah,blah..the usual questions.
What's your thoughts team?
Been really happy with my sx50 and have seen few reviews saying the sx60 isn't really that much better. You might find a good deal on the 50 with the new model out.
Pretty sure the 540 doesn't have a view finder and the SX60 does. Finding a NOS SX50 would be a bit of a fluke now. SX60 big in size compared to 50 & 540

A SX60HS Powershot has appeared. Under $500, was $799. Dam near identical to the 40 we had, only a smidge bigger. Can use the same battery,charger and card, so could come in handy. Looks to be similar features etc, so even I might be able to drive it.
The experts ‘er indoors spoke to recommended it.....so that means it won’t be my fault when it not right
I went from a sx40 to a sx60. All the features a pretty much the same but that little bit extra zoom does make a different went trying to idea a animal at distance. AT 400M am getting not a bad picture and for your general photos up close you want be disappointed
I have an sx 60 but not sure I know how to use it properly yet.
Taken a fair few pics of animals at distance and they're not as good as I would have hoped. Tripod used and remote to take pic.
Could be a settings thing I don't know about.

Ok, what's the preferred setting that people use to get the sharp pictures that you post. Going to be trial and error, but any shortcuts would be appreciated.
I've only every used auto. Been happy with how things turn out. Pays to use the 2second timer if using s bit of zoom as you wobble it when you press the buttonQuote:

These Canon cameras have pretty much the same controls menus for all.
Auto mode is good.
The other modes all have their place.
Play with it as much as you can.
Suss out the video mode run some sheep around the yard and see how you get on.(nearest to sport speed)
The old rules such as where the sun is still applies.
Take spare charged battery and enough memory.

It is easier than reading the manual as you fiddle with the camera.
You will find you will take some really good photos and video.
Under no circumstances try to teach your wife you will have to use subtle strategy.
