    GoPro's. Who's got one?

Hey, as a total gadget freak I am really keen on getting a GoPro to video some of my adventures. Holding the phone under my chin while trying to land a trout certainly was a spectacle.
I have an OK camera but I like the idea of the mounts etc for handsfree recording etc as well as being waterproof. I also would use it for general videos of the kids etc.
The Go Pro's sound like the benchmark for the sportscams. Whats the pro's and con's? Was thinking of getting the Hero3+ Black.

Con is the wide field of view and the camera comes with no zoom function, just the fixed length. Pro is the quality and build, better to spend the money and get decent gear than a cheapie that may crap out in 6 months IMO.

Would be good for a hat mount for your point of view landing the fish, but maybe consider a cheap camera in a waterproof case, placed on a small tripod by the rivers edge pointing across the river and at you ? Would look pretty good as you pull the fish in closer to the camera.

GoPros are great for catching action for sure, but a lot of videos using it just show sharing the scenery as much as sharing the action. I guess it depends on what your goal is for video. I use a camera with a decent zoom on rabbit shooting because they're so small and so far away

I have a 3 Black, yes it's great for hands free video and closer in stuff or where it might get wet etc. I have some cool footage with it attached to the outside of a Hughes 500, hanging off the front of a boat etc, all places that I wouldn't place a normal camera.

The major downside I see is the shit battery life... I have 2 spares and ha e just ordered a combined charger and battery bank which allows you to charge 2 batteries in it plus the one in the camera all at the same time. It also has a power bank that will charge 2 more batteries when out in the "field"

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Yeah, that appears to be a bit of a problem mentioned in reviews. The 3+ has a larger battery with 20% gas more (supposedly).

I brought two of the Hero 3 Black GoPro's, one worked perfectly fine the other would do everything except sync with my phone which was a pain in the ass so I sent it back, was no problems getting a replacement, I have dropped mine to a depth of 40mtrs to film fish - very cool until you see how many couta looked at it, best option for a wide range of uses but can be a bit of a compromise in certain situations when you want to focus on a small area, havn't had the best results strapping to the scope yet but will continue trying, as has been stated big downfall is battery but I see the newest model comes with better battery life

Battery life is pretty crap on the hero 3 black and may as we'll throw that farking Bluetooth remote out straight away, bloody useless. Takes awesome video at 100 frames per second though, got some sweet clips from shooting in the machine.

They probably lack a shutter that stays open long enough to catch you moving?! Bwaaa haaaa haaaa

Keen to see what you end up with.
Wife reckons we need one when she seen the shitty filming I managed yesterday of my son landing some nice browns and a ripper jetboat trip.

Your video is essential then! Post it up.

Same for you Dave. Show us the lads fish.

got the black, get the + for extra batt time, have just used it for diving and abit of fishing, always good to catch those "funny moments" on cam where you always wish you had recorded it
Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts
