Cool wee birds those. I had one land on my rifle barrel when scoping out a clearing a couple of weeks ago. Not sure who shat himself first, him or me

I got witching a couple of meters of one. He was sitting to a fence post and I had him in the spotlight.
He kept trying to look around the light but I got right up to him before he realised how close I was and buggered off. Cool looking birds.

This is not a Morepork but a NZ little Owl. I found it in my daughters house, not sure if the cat had brought it in and it may have had injury's. I made a temporary cage to observe it.We kept it for one night and it was fine so released it the next night. What a neat little bird and only the second one I had seen.

We get a few morepork out our way. Comes into the trees near the house so I get the spotty out and scare the sparrows out of the trees which he then quickly devours. Amazing the size of a meal they swallow whole

They have softer feathers on their wing leading edges so when they fly past you can hardly hear them

I see an owl or two most evenings and you can always hear them. Heading out now so I might see one. Common to see them sitting out quietly in the pines in daytime, they actually seem to like a bit of sun and are very tame. Need to get out with the camera and the binos and try take some photos.

The big old man pines are shelter belts around a whole lot of little paddocks above the house. The are habitat for all sorts of stuff. Blue herons, owls, even the odd New Zealand Falcon makes an appearance. They are scheduled for logging
Nows the time to protest Tussock
