    Red Squirrel

    Pretty cold here at the moment, took a photo of this fella out the kitchen window....gotta lotta love for these cheeky wee buggers !

    Nice one Mangle, we 'shot' the same photo in my mothers back garden in Liverpool, but the barstewart was a 'grey'........

    Is it the red ones that are more protected over their? where did the grey ones originate from ? great pics

    Red squirrels are native to the UK, but have been largely replaced by the grey squirrel (scurelous canadensis), which are pests. I've certainly killed my fair share of greys with fenn traps, air rifles, 22lr, and shotties.

    Reds are, or were, only found in Cumbria, Northumbria and Scotland, Maybe also Lake District.

    Nice to see such a beautiful photo of a red.

    They are supposed to taste pretty good. I never tried eating them myself. Very tough, muscular animals. I've still got the odd squirrel tale for fly tying from squirrels that I killed nearly 30 years ago.
