Nice p38 Saw it last time posted. Have had a wee play with cannons myself albeit a bit smaller and only firing paper wads.
Any reason you couldn't use say a shotgun powder to get above speed of sound?

I would not advise using anything other than the correct grade of Black Powder veitnamcam.
Anything else may turn the cannon into what might amount to the equivelent of a pipe bomb.

I'm kinda addicted to breathing at the moment, gotta do every few munites.

Loading this cannon with anything other than BP might cause this addiction to instantly cease.

I made a lobbing cannon with the remaining peice of 3" steel ......... it seems Mortars are not quite legal in NZ yet but lobbing cannons are all good

Shoots the golf ball about 200m and about 100m into the air.

Ive almost finished making a mould to cast some lead or zinc balls to try out how they go.

I'll post a vid of that soon.

    Cheers
    Pete

I see your point but I would have thought it would be relatively simple to work out a maximum safe pressure if you knew steel type and thickness. But actually measuring that pressure would pose a problem
