I think I will pass on him I know of a few bigger ones lol
A big bodied even 8 pointer on the left and a young 10 on the right. There's another older 10 I'll try find the pic, nothing big in the area but even long tines at least.

No great stags but a lesson learnt.... if you go to the trouble of lugging in a salt block make sure the camera is on the right angle! Bumped a stag this morning while picking up the camera and there were prints in around where the camera should have been pointing.
Happy with the little cameras sensor range and photos though.
Scrub Sika.

Moutrie a7i? good camera for the price, have used it a fair bit over the last couple years, the only thing in dense dark enclosed areas the night shots aren't good. Cool pics
Takes awhile to figure out good placement! sometimes if it's directly inline with the trail and too low you only see parts of the deer. Put a block of wood underneath the top of the camera(high in the tree is good) and the deer will be more in the center of the pic. Be careful with branches and scrub movement, one time I had to delete 5,000 photos of the wind blowing!

First pigs caught on camera up at the families new property up Mangonui. That boar looks tasty!
They seem to have the same pattern over the last 2 weeks wondering through between 6.30-7.30am
My first attempt using a TC didn't work so well busted & it chewed the little hood off over the lens !

Well this weekend we got a little surprise. Beeman checked some of the camera's on his route and came back with a "New kid on the Block". During the velvet we had a stag run past the camera and left a blurred picture of a drop tyne on the top of the right antler, it wasn't a good picture but you could see the big blob of velvet on the tip.
When we viewed the pictures we had some great footage of this same stag ( we think) but the stills did show the head that well. Beeman decided to pause the video at the better positions and take a picture with his phone camera hence the picture quality isn't quite as good as the original. The stag has 15 points that we can count and is the most points we have seen on a stag in this forest. Beeman found a couple of rut pads starting to be used not to far from the wallow and his camera, so let's hope we can get onto him when they start up roaring.Attachment 84836Attachment 84837
We hunt the roar and other times of the year for the chance of shooting a good stag or a deer for the freezer. As most people do the same thing and shoot a lot of bigger stags than this one I don't see a problem. In reality we may never see him but we do know he is there so it gets us out of bed for a chance at him and several other ones that are reasonable.
If we left all the good ones for there genes not many would be shot, plenty of genes get passed on as we are constantly see good stags coming on. ( In this area and the rest of the country)
check my cam last weekend 2300 odd pics mostly from the wind but a few deer poking about going by the pic,s they are wandering more at night

yea there,s no trees only short manuka/scrub I did give them a decent trim but its pretty exposed to the elements , pretty cool to see whats getting about though a little surprised at all the nocturnal action
@Boaraxa with he extra ones cause of wind, I look at the time stamps that you can bring up in file Explorer under details and list view (with my windows system anyway) if the time stamps are all together for more than 10mins it's 90% likely the wind.
Just put 2 up so will see what's around in a week or so
I changed the card in my camera a few days ago, theres been a bit of action :omg:
If this works ok, I will post some more videos and still pics.

I got a few pics of the next stag 3 years ago, he was growing some good timber. Something turned to shit :omg:
Last years pics show him missing a hock.
He still seems to get around ok, and the girls don't seem to mind
Shame about the antlers though.

I think I win the prize for hard luck - or - Great White Hunter - sad arse
Had Stag moved into Cam just 2 mins earleir - as I was less than 200m back up track arriving at bike and could have walked down.
I did not realise Stag had been so close - Dodge and I smelt him as we drove past wallow - but now I know why pup got so excited on back of Quad - he was just metres up into bush

It happens often @Sarvo even walking around cameras, I have 16 cams out that I check them weekly. Was hunting a camera line with @Mooseman one day and a couple of tasty pigs were kicked back on deck chairs about 30 metres before a camera, @Mooseman reacted like greased lightning drilling one then stood back pointing to the other making strange gestures that the other was mine, not being one to argue I bowled it. We spent 10 minutes dressing them then proceeded to the camera. When we checked the card on the computer a few hours later a big stag ran up to 5 metres from the camera, stopped looking back at us trying to kick a deck chair of his leg and you could hear my shot close. This stag appeared to bee hanging out with the pigs. I think there is a moral to this story but you may have to ask @Mooseman. hahaha
This roaring is a tough life. :wtfsmilie: Attachment 86095 Sun bathing.
That's a great trail cam shot you have there @BeeMan
Bloody good alright!
