    Asset trackers - Battery powered suitable for rifle cases to vehicles

    A friend and I sick of seeing stolen vehicles and equipment on social media are now importing renowned Australian manufactured asset tracking equipment.

    We are Sentry Tracking Solutions;
    https://sentrytrackingsolutions.co.nz

    Our equipment is from Austrailian manufacturers Digital Matter;
    Digitalmatter.com

    Any questions or comments please let me know

    Regards,

    Reuben

    Just a quick example of what a battery powered unit in your safe or gun case could offer;

    Looks like it could be the go. I see there is a 10 year battery life from the tracker ?
    I assume it's the customers' responsibility to get the sim card ( if that's what it uses), and a yearly subscription service payable to Sentry tracking Solutions ?

    Thats the manufacturers quote. I believe they include an asterix for it being once a day notifications. We are saying more like 2 years or so on energizer lithium AAA. It will depend heavily on plan and type of usage. There is a low battery warning regardless.

    We provide it working with SIM card and batteries. The subscription fee covers all connectivity costs, data usage, and server connections.

    Please excuse my poor sales banter - we are two communications technicians trying to fill a need.

    We have done our best to do two things; These devices are the best technology in the world at the moment for these purposes, and we are offering them in the simplest possible format for retail sales. The idea is that if you are vaguely technical as most gun/offroader/motorcycle etc enthusiasts tend to be, you will be able to pick up one of these units from your mailbox and you're away.

    There are other devices you might see about in NZ. These are generally 2G units units from the likes of AliExpress out of China. The issues with these units is they will generally need charging or battery changes every week or so, All of the connectivity management will be left to the customer, and the NZ 2G networks are getting phased out across the country. They also require a higher degree of technical management. These 2G units are not too bad for the $80 or so you can get them for off the internet, if you are willing to deal with the extra management but unfortunately you most often see them for sale in NZ marked up to more like $200+. For that money they are a rip off.

    The devices we are selling from Digital Matter are currently the best in the world for low power IoT (internet of things) 4G/5G GPS devices. The data is stored and managed by a world renowned Australian company with all the best and current data security practices. We believe these devices are the first in the world that make this kind of end user retail sales viable for our applications.

    We are taking care of all of the complications of managing connectivity etc, and we have priced it all on a very tight margin. The intention being that we want them to be a realistic option for people like ourselves just trying to look after their kit. Also to put it simply - we want to blow those cheap units out of the water, as they have no place posing as top quality devices.

    At the moment we are prioritising the one device for small battery powered applications. These are the most versatile and most suited to high value items without taking up space, and without drawing power from some external source. This is becoming particularly important as criminals often will disconnect batteries at the time of theft for the likes of caravans. These are the Digital Matter Yabby Edge.

    This year we are working to wider applications such as longer battery life, vehicle specific units, tank monitoring type equipment, and repurposing the current devices for gate/door tamper alarms for things like containers, sheds, and similar. We test all operations of devices and configurations extensively before we put them up so this can take time.

    As I have said previously, all plans cover data connectivity, data usage, server access, SIM cards, and first pack of user replaceable batteries.

    The current plan options are;

    Standard Tracking
    Motion alerts
    30 second position logging while moving
    30 minute position updates while moving
    12 hourly "heartbeat" while stopped
    Connect on start, and connect on stop
    trip/track viewing and management
    User activated "Recovery mode" live connection and 60 second location updates
    Best suited to high value, hard to replace, and vulnerable equipment that you want to know where it is at any given moment, ie Motorcycles, "toy hauler" type trailers, caravans, boats, construction work site type equipment (tool trailers etc), firearms and firearms cases.
    Could also be used for small business or personal fleet management applications for on site time, but does not have a connection to the vehicle for ignition state, run hours, and other fleet type applications. This is something we are working on this year with other devices currently under test.

    Periodic location
    4 hourly location updates regardless of movement,
    User activated "Recovery mode" live connection and 60 second location updates
    Longer battery life
    Cheaper subscription
    Best suited to the likes of plant equipment that may trigger motion constantly reducing battery life, equipment that would be difficult to steal but its location might be in question (farming implements, commercial test equipment, industrial and commercial plant equipment, caravans, boats, high end outdoor furniture etc).

    If you can think of an application for this type of equipment that doesn't seem to be perfectly served in the stated devices or plans please let me know. We want to make this the best possible service, we can either modify plan configurations, or find other devices more suited to your needs.

    I’m amazed how many resellers digital matter want in nz.
    I hope they didn’t make you order a bulk lot of them?

    Thats right! These units are sold by just about every business to business commercial fleet and asset tracking company. They are the best of what you can get for these purposes. The New Zealand fleet tracking industry generally is one of the most developed in the world for this kind of technology.

    What you will often find however is that most of these companies stick to the "80:20" rule and wont work to retail customers needs as they believe it is not worth their time for singles or doubles to be sold. Some of the companies reselling this kit will even go to the degree of pretending they manufacture it themselves.

    We know the value of this kit, and are running tight margins to pass this on to end users. We also believe in being transparent in every aspect of how this is being managed.
