The fully radial brake design is about 3 times louder to the shooter and blows mud/wet clay dirt and dust all over you, your rifle, your optics, and your mates, and is very good at making a shock wave that smacks you in the head every time you fire the rifle - very unpleasant.

Radially ported brakes have been superseded by side discharge brakes as they are far quieter to the shooter, better at reducing recoil and barely puts any ground covering material into the air.

Proper side discharge brake design is essential and minimises negative effects, poorly designed side discharge brakes can perform similarly to radial brakes but never worse.
