With Back Country when possible we add the water to the bags in the morning and let them soak all day, then just heat at meal time. Makes them a lot more edible

Hmmm - now there's an idea - I must try one with it reheated in the bag in the billy i.e. double boiler as the water can then be a brew . . . . but if you already do it you can have all the credit haha

I've only tried Back Country. Seemed nice enough. Especially the roast chicken and mash one.

    Must try Wilderness though.

I've found the backcountry fish pie to be surprisingly good, I was expecting to be deeply disappointed the first time I tried it but it hit the spot.

back country cooked breakfast FOR TWO..... two different flavours both good...agree 100 % if you can add some water and let rehydrate then top up with the boiling stuff its an improovement.... stir shite out of it and let it rest so all gets rehydrated...its come a long way in last few years.
continental mashed spud is a far cry from the old waitak spud of old.

IF you are hungry enough, I guess BC will work. But as for flavour......forget it.
I would rather go Bear gryls

The nicest dehy meal I have ever had was Mountain House (USA company).
Back in 2017 we cleared out a food store in a hut we frequent and found this meal in the bottom of the drum, Carried an expiry date of 11/98. Gave it a soak for the day and tried it for tea. Bloody fantastic, couldn't tell it wasn't the real deal.
Found out later that their products used to carry a 7 year shelf life claim.
$24.95 in the early 90s says it wasn't cheap to buy at the time.
I took great delight in telling my daughter, who was 18 at the time, that the cow that made the mince died before she was born.

Agree... we use BC but I will only eat the roast chicken which is tasty, or the cottage pie... not as nice but edible.

Back country mash spud is the ducks nuts....better than making your own.
Stroganoffs and stews are ok, as above time to rehydrate is key.
I wouldn't buy or try anything chicken, vegetable or pasta based so cant comment on those.

Absolute Wilderness sponsors the NZDA HUNTS program.
Everyone doing a course anywhere in NZ gets two meals free!!!!

(I haven't tried mine yet, so can't comment further).
