Lumpy bits on possum... is this OK?

    Hi All.

I got a possum last night and went to skin it today but found some small lumps under its arms and legs between the skin and muscle.

Here's a picture (warning: dead animal... don't click if squeamish) http://i.imgur.com/0TAy0.jpg

I don't have much experience but my father does, and hasn't seen/noticed anything like it before. There weren't any obvious lesions on the outside of the skin and I cut open one of the bumps, and it was just white flesh inside. It was a young male and seemed to be in good health, not scrawny, skinny or sick looking.

Anyone know what the lumps are and whether it's safe to eat?

    Thanks!

Just fat ,will peel off the skin easy as with a fleshing tool (tanners knife).

Fluid around the leg joints you need to look for ,generally smell a bit funny too.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

If in doubt, throw it out!!! How many ^%&@**^&% skins have I taken that stuff off...why do I want to think about that...

No matter how hungry I was I really do not think I could stomach eating possum although those who do reckon it is pretty good...its the oil glands you have to watch out for...
