As the title suggests today I made some protein packed Old School Pickled Eggs.
I took some of this

Hard boiled and peeled the eggs, chopped half the onion, placed it all in a jar with the spices, topped it off with white vinegar.
And ended up with this

Ten days resting in the fridge then num num num :P

The longest bit, apart from waiting for them to pickle for ten days, is boiling and peeling the eggs.

There's a retired toolmaker around the corner from me that pickles everything known to man: eggs, mushrooms, walnuts, chillis of all sorts, you name it. Eg: this dude got shitty that worchestire sauce wasn't what it used to be, so started a batch of 209l of his own stuff over 10 years ago, and I have to say it's like night n day, he won't sell it, it's his lifetime supply :XD:. Unfortunately he also has a bar at his house so whenever we are round there watching sport or for Thirsty Friday, eventually the pickled stuff comes out. Black beer and pickled eggs are Grade ONE atomic fart material. It's incredible. I can clear an entire workshop on a Saturday morning.

I've been tempted to try pickling some frankfurters too

That does sound yum. Pickled garlic is a bit of alright too.
A pickled egg dropped into a bag of walkers ready salted and a pint of old peculier, one of the few things I miss about England.

If vinegar is strong enough, could you not just plop the eggs in shell and all?
Used to see pickeled eggs on the counter of every chippy in the uk, but they seem to have gone out of fashion.
They're great if you put if a bit of beetroot in too

Got a work mate that has a pickled egg each day. He does his in malt vinegar.

I've never made pickled eggs before but pickled onions both hot & spicy & honey pickled I've done by the 20 kg sack full into 20 ltr buckets for years .. Right the chooks are in for a Hurry up in the morning that's for sure & with 1600 empty Agee jars on hand , I'm going to fill a few of them... Thanks for the YouTube sites Pete.
just remember that picked eggs and shower domes are not a match made in heaven
now tommy me old china be a bit careful;modern jocks dont have the same quality stitching as ye old white jockey grundies, and who knows one of them there atomic farts may well dissolve the jointstitching between elastic and the pouches leading to a bit of unintended DIY in front of the boys-could be a spot embarassing hopping round trying to contain ya wedding tackle.should it happen Im sure a coupla photos onhere would give us a little joy????Quote:

I use white wine vinegar ... and make a quick brine by heating the vinegar and adding 7g each of cloves, allspice, cinnamon, and a few peppercorns ... bring to the boil, cover the saucepan and leave to go cold, strain ...
