    Antler chandelier

Hey guys I’m building an antler chandelier just wanting opinions on which method anyone has done them before as to them working best. I was just going to do one central light in the centre. I’ve setup two options. The first being setting the bases of the antlers from the centre out and second option is to form a ring up using 4 of the antlers then bringing more up from the outsides vertically if that makes sense. Or am I better to do the “wagon wheel” setup? Height and width of the space it’s going isn’t a concern. Interested to hear from anyone that’s built one out of big antlers as the ones I’m using are pretty serious bits of bone!

    Cheers

I quite like that cone shape in the second pic.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Size: 59.1 KB I bent pipe to run the wires in and give support then bolted the antler through the pipe with threaded rod. I can get some better photos if you want.

Agreed. If using just one light the "cone" shaped one will look better. I think the "wagon wheel" shape would look better with more lights around it rather than a central one.

I’ve made a chandler before, the hardest thing is getting it certified by a Sparky as no one wants to puteir name to it incase of fire and the insurance guys come looking. The one I did I got around this by having a Sparky completely wire it and then wire it to a removable plug. Not antler utits on my web page if any one wants to look.

Yep, that trade liability issue is for real. Our recent house has three wrought iron chandeliers and I initially started looking locally but our electrician warned us about it. Some guy near here makes them and he sold one but another electrician refused to install it unless he did a full rewire. The owner agreed to this as he had a fair bit of coin invested already so it didn't end up cheap.

$800 big ones for 1 1/2 hr work . Worth it thou as I had cut the wire threading it thru and it was earthing out thru the copper structure, ouch. Still whats the alternative, candles I have seen. A local guy from here does a phenomanal job and yes he has this problem, the other one is getting it to hang straight.

you could go 12 volt and have the transformer in the ceiling , then you are allowed to do it yourself.

Yea sweet thanks for that. I found some on there, think they are g4 3 Watters or something along those lines, just wasn’t sure if they would be bright enough, the one I’m making is going in a hut, going to run it off a truck battery.

ok, when using LED's a couple of things to consider:
1: diffusion of the light, you may find yourself lighting the ceiling not putting light sideways or downwards so look where your lights will point and whats the splay angle

2: colour frequency this is normally expressed as K. 3500K is slightly yellowish. 5000k is white/slightly blue and 6500k is dazzling white. although the wattages are the same the higher the K the brighter it seems, but although doing fine work or having a shave (or makeup if you are that way inclined) is great you wouldnt want to sit under 6500k lighting too long watching tv.

Thanks for the tips @gonetropo, I’m not expecting great things from my Ali express purchase but given the cost I won’t be upset if they are no good, it’s going in a 4.8mx4.8m hut that we’ve built and is more for ambient light really so we don’t have to use head torches etc.
