Bedding a 2 part stock Forend on a Savage 99

I have a Savage 99 from 1975 what was in 308 and has been re barreled to 358 win.
The old Fore-end stock fits just fine.
However the main stock was cracked so I get a pair of Boyds Laminated Stocks in.
The Main Stock fitted up with some minor chisel work.

I am having more issues with the Fore-end. The Channel is a little narrow and shallow but chisels and sand paper can fix that.
Whats causing me grief is that as I tension up the screw I'm pulling the front of the stock up into the barrel. I'm concerned that this will give me issues with temperature changing pressure and point of impact
Would love some links to how others have done this.

I'm thinking I should relieve the joint between the action and the fore-end and the full length of the barrel channel leaving just a small area either side of the stock screw. Effectively hanging the for-end off just the barrel.
