    Bergara T/D .308 re-stock

Had this for awhile. Had some initial work done lightening the action and having the barrel turned down. It shoots great so this Christmas break I decided to give it a walnut stock using a nice piece i've had lying around.

I've never liked the amount of drop in the comb, so I raised it up a bit and used a Tikka T3 for the stock shape, with a fuller curved grip in a Bavarian style with a palm swell. I'm working on the forestock now. Its been interesting inletting around this action compared to a bolt action. A bit hard to get your head around at times.

The takedown lever assembly will determine the depth of the forestock, but i'll be keeping the top of the stock level with the centre of the barrel unlike the factory original which droops like a wet lettuce leaf.

Will post a couple more pics when its done.

First time using a 40 grit disc on the angle grinder. Was amazed at how quickly you can shape something up compared to rasps etc.

Rear stock 80% now to start the forestock.

Nice work. Although I have to ask what has been welded to the barrel? I can't work out what that is/how it works if its some kind of mount?

My guess is that's the hinge, the stock hadn't been inlet for it yet and he's just mocking it up

Almost makes me want another Bergara take down....shows what Bergara could have done to make a far more desirable rifle too

Beauty. How much weight did you save with the machining?

From memory it was around a pound of weight. The main saving was turning the barrel down to a pencil profile. Now i'm adding it back with walnut haha
