Apparently you want to make sure the water can't get in through the screw holes


Some more structure, and the beginnings of watertight compartments


Fiberglass to strengthen the seams


Now to hide the crimes...

Had one like this about 50 yrs ago with a detachable out rigger. Fitted on the surf racks a top my mini, it was longer than the car, use to take it floundering down Lake Reserve out of Featherston.

Damn you..... There goes any spare time I had this coming winter

I adapted it from this design: Port of Toledo Community Boathouse

Changed the seating layout, made the sides higher. Changed the framing layout for a more streamlined shape and added the fiberglassing. Planning to add detachable mast, outriggers and rudder in order to give my arms a rest.

Those additions of course rely on me finishing the canoe part in the first place. At present I'm stuck in a limbo of seeing an imperfection, filling/sanding and touching up with primer.

Thats extremely well done! I love seeing people build stuff from scratch like that.

That's what Dad said as he was helping me with the watertight compartments. Could cut some holes in the rear one for an outboard shaft. There's a 15hp one up on the shelf, visible in some of the pictures. That ought to make it go.

15HP! you'll be water skiing behind it!! Ive got a spare ski pole somewhere hahahaha, just put a bracket at the rear on the side or mount on your out rigger beams. I was thinking electric or 5hp motor

I just checked, it's actually 8hp. Been quite some years since we've gotten that one wet. I'll stick to paddles for now, and my ambitious sail plan. A tiny outboard might be useful for taking it out alone, to help me fight all the wind it catches with just me weighing down the back end.

My dad just made a collapsible waka-ama over winter. Two piece hull (waka), with an outrigger (ama). Windsurfer mast, and a backup mercury 2.5hp. Made to go on the roof of his Bluebird, but get him to the barrier. I'll post some pictures in a bit. Make a lot of sense for someone without tons of money and/or storage, or just sailing sickos in general (my old man hahaha) that can't be fucked with trailers and all that.
