Had a wee play with the G1 this afternoon
    Made a quick takedown screw
Quite different to the G2 one on right

The G1 frame stock bolt spigot is very different
    But it works well

Built up the cheek piece with some bubble plastic to get a better cheek position so I can work out a perminant solution

Sighted it in 20mm high at 50m

    And it started raining again
So won't be going for that walk with it now

Barrel got shortened, threaded a barrel band and heavily fluted now
    It's lost 1 pound
Half from being cut to 18"
    Half from the fluting
So it should be nicely balanced now because it was horrible with a 23" straight bull barrel

@akaroa1 have you done anymore playing with the contenders?
I picked up one in .223 has claimed 1 deer and 2 foxes so far before putting in my permit to acquire which has been approved and now officially in my name.

    Oh @Tuidog I sold the G2 and 223 barrel.

But I still have the G1 frame and lots of barrels
I do use the 22 LR with night vision for possums around the farm
The 222R does a lot of feral sheep control
30-30 has shot a few deer
The 375 Winchester has an accupont red dot sight on it and is my packrafting rifle because its a SS barrel, short, light and powerful

It still holds the record for the only deer I shot with a Contender over 300m

Now I don't recommend 320m shots at deer with the 6.8 but this hind had been taunting me at closer range but I just couldn't get a clear shot.
I gave up and was walking away only too look back and see her in the open.
I debated going back a little closer but decided she would almost certainly dissappear again.
So I ranged from where I was, dialed up and shot.
There was no obvious sign of a hit and because I thought I had missed i didn't reload.
She walked 10m and then fell over and slid 50m down the hill.

Factory Hornady 110 grain hollow point bullet just behind the elbow.
It looked like it had been shot by a 300 magnum on the near side under the skin.
No exit wound but catastrophic internal damage

The 6.8 SPC is very capable if used carefully but I generally prefer vastly bigger entry and exit wounds

For a humane dispatch, I would opt for use of my 7mm JDJ #2

I actually just got lucky with that slab of maple
You've really no idea how dense and heavy the burl wood is!?!
I prefer the weight of a thumbhole design in straight walnut
