Getting old
Hi , All I live in Wanganui and turn 90 in april , i have been doing gun work since I turned 16 (it was a slug gun ) in the time since then i have learned a lot and and can do anything gun wise ( like rifle a barrel) and think that it would be a good idea to start a young guy interested in shooting of on the right foot with gear (I have a lot ) and books .. Anyone interested living in the area ... Rob

@lefty1 you are a true Good Bugger!
It is wonderful to be reminded of, and humbled by the generosity and good-heartedness of folks on this forum!!!
Good on you! I'm sure there'll be a keen chap (or chapette being non sexist) who will appreciate and enjoy your offer

Inspirational! What a fantastic offer lefty1. We are mostly all young when contrasted against your ninety years. It would be the opportunity of a lifetime for some young fellah to take you up I am sure.
-
Respect to that gentleman there

Getting old
Yes respect, hats off to you lefty1
-
Good on ya @lefty1
I'm a Toolmaker with 30+ years behind me but I'd jump at the chance if I lived local as I'm sure you'd be able to show me a thing or three.
Cheers
Pete

-
I bet you have a ton of comeinhandy bits, enough for a flinter or two, good on you mate, hope you get some one to share your knowledge with.
-
Top opportunity there for someone. I bet you've forgotten more than some of the current tradies know
-
Brilliant offer Lefty, hope someone grabs this wonderful opportunity

Hi , wish I had started out as a tool maker , the perfect start for a gunsmith , I began as a fitter welder then boiler maker blacksmith Time at the forge was my favourite time .making flat springs for spanish shot guns was a doddle after that ford car window winders was the donor material ... Being hard up most all the time I always charged mates rates, not just what the traffic allowed because I knew there were others out there like me who needed a boost up hence my offer , so far not a nibble ,can hardly believe it , perhaps it was the wrong place to star the thread or no one in the area has the urge to learn something of real use to them Rob

Hi the one gay boxes are bursting ,if the family had their way it would all go into the bin now that would be a disaster ... I have a new e-mail address it is robinhume439@gmail.com ...Rob

Mate if I lived in Wanga I would be in like a shot
-
I would love to make my own barrel, apparently thats what an old chap who owned my lathe before I got it used it for. I might be in the area for a weekend in a couple of months so I will try to tee up a time to get a few ideas.
-
Such a shame that experienced guys like this don't seem to be able to pass on their skills / experience. Makes me wonder where the world will be when the younger generations dont know their ar+e from their elbow...
-
What a fantastic offer, if I wasn't so far I'd be around like a shot. A true scratchbuilt gunsmith is a rare thing. Most these days buy a stock and screw a ready to fit barrel on and call themselves a gunsmith.

Nice to see someone offer something of true value!!
I've watched my gunmaker her in the uk, did his apprenticeship at Purdys! It's amazing the knowledge that those eight years working for them has given him.
He's also tried training apprentices, but had nothing but trouble.
Guess generation ME has no idea that if you stick in a bit of hard graft now you won't have to later on.
Good luck to you though I hope you find a good one to train!!

What a top offer Lefty1 surly there is someone willing to learn that trade close to Wanganui, hope somebody contacts you soon.
-
Wow this sounds like an amazing opportunity.. I would be all over this if I lived in that area. Good on you!
One lucky Wanganui bloke is gonna strike gold!
-
If I lived in wanganui I'd be keen as to learn all I could. But I live in Auckland. You might have better luck in a different sub forum.
