Oh FFS
It just seems to be a cool project, make a firearm from scratch and then make the powder and bullets.
Flintlock seems more practical than matchlock while making my own caps for a caplock seems to hard
Looking into it, I could possibly use electric ignition
Hmmm the self made part of it is the appeal to me and electric ignition seems so much easier than a good Flintlock, would still have the lag as would still have a pan setup
Build an old tec rifle with moden tec just doesent sit well with me.
they were around before we harnessed electricity.
It seems most, but not all of the info on the web is nausea around kit builds
Buy a old one and rebuild it?
I think you would find it much easier to build a matchlock than a flintlock, they are so much simpler
I haven't got a DIY flintlock but I can tell you once you go black you don't go back!

I prefer meat in its original packaging

While a matchlock would be undoubtably easier, I'm not sure I want to try and hunt with one.
Have been reading up on what it takes to make my own caps as ideally I would like a caplock
Res for 4.5 k I can put you into a very nice stalkers double rifle BP hammer gun, great for NZ deer
Electric ignition is a lot harder than you think. A high voltage spark, ark doesnt always work.
Alright if u use ether as the propellant:wtfsmilie:
I have been doing a lot of reading on this, and driverman seems to be right-electric spark seems to be a hit and miss affair
Thanks for the offer Maca49 but the attraction is making it myself, I do already own several black powder guns-a couple that I would not be keen to fire but also three modern reproduction guns.
I have ordered several books on the subject from Amazon
Your a keen man Res:thumbsup:
I'm just a guy with to much time on my hand
Hay, I see what you did there :p
And if you follow my thread you will know how to make a Hawken plains rifle, lock, stock and barrel and it`s got a heap of woompam, (word for loud bang) :ka boom:, and great for nz deer ,I think , have to try it. Homebrew.357.

made a matchlock with my old man when i was around 13 to shoot marbles at ducks, did some modifications when the old fulla wasnt around and lost my eye brows
I'm fairly keen to keep my eye brows!
Yea, sizing/angle(?) of such things is something I hope the books I have ordered will educate me on.
First up I just want to make something that functions and is safe
