Knife handles - questions for a super easy build

Arvo all - I got a cheap auction lot of gardening tools, and in the pile was a very old but super duper sharp curved skinning knife.
Handle is shot so I've cut it off and have wacked it in vinegar to start the rust removal process - I then run out of puff and left it in some old engine oil whilst I consider my next steps.
I just want to blast it back to good metal and wack a handle on it. There are 2-3 pin holes on the handle.

I've had a look on youtube and seen people spending ages making handles - I just want fast and functional - do I basically look for some hard wood, rip it to size - glue - pin - and then sand to shape ?
Anything else that I need to know? Standard araldite ok? And would stainless pins from a printer be ok for poor mans pins?
I don't understand the pinning process - do I need a metal that I can peen over or are the pins also glued in place?

got a photo ,araldite fine make sure the handles are flat on the inside,finish the fronts against the blade before you glue up .use brass for the pins glue and peen them then finish the handle

Whatever I do I'll wack up some photos of the project. I actually have a cunning plan with du-kit!

And once the woods handles are flat and flush you can drill some shallow holes in them to make the glue stick better, if you rough up the metal handle a little then wash it down with acetone (or nail polish removal if you get the non perfumed ones) then it will help the glue bond.

No markings on the blade - but was pretty pitted.
Now restored with a rimu handle on it - had some scrap laying around. Not a knife of any beauty by the standards I see on here - but will definitely get a heap of use without costing me anything except some glue and time.
I learnt a lot in the process.
