I was the same as you Mintie, a mate had an absolute shocker of a 10/22 in the 80's . I have never seen any rifle ever shoot so badly, a 10 ltr paint bucket at 50 mtrs and maybe 2-3 shots would have hit it.
So after years of slagging 10/22 rifles and their owners I got a new houge stainless one, Gundoc tweaked it for me before I had fired a shot but my expectations for it were pretty low.
To my surprise it punched a 6mm group at 50 mtrs... man I ate humble shit pie for awhile after that.
Like you say, very reliable , mine cycles everything and regularly hit rabbits well out pass 100 mtrs...................... they can be great shooters, I am a convert also.
